I’ve seen lots of things in my days, but what I just did exceeds all imagination: I joined a cooking contest. Over the next 30 days, contestants need to cook one pork chop recipe a day, take photos of the process and of the end result, then send them via email together with the recipes to the contest organizers. The best ones are going to be published in a cookbook. I thought that was cool, but now I realize what I’ve just entered myself into: how on Earth am I going to come up with 28 pork chops recipes?

So I started to put together sites I can inspire myself from. So far I’ve chosen two sites:

http://porkchop.mydailyrecipe.com/ – I really liked a couple of recipes from this website and I do hope the author is going to publish more of them (that’s why they call it My Daily Recipe, I guess)
http://porkchopsrecipes.net/ – I liked the pork chop casserole from this one, so I’ve chosen it to be cooked next Saturday, when I have guests for dinner.

The list is open, I’ll let you know what other recipes I’ve selected for this cooking challenge. Amusing, huh?

Today I have a big challenge to face: I can’t go shopping for groceries, so I need to use only what I have to cook tonight’s dinner. I’ve got celery, one or two carrots, half cabbage, three onions, a small head of broccoli, and chicken. I want to make something as delicious as pulled pork sandwiches, but without stir-frying anything. I wonder if pulled chicken would be possible to make.

If you haven’t heard about this yet, I’m happy to inform you that Lena Erziak handbags for spring – summer 2010 are already launched and they will probably be available in stores starting net week. Elegant and impeccably finished, these bags are not as expensive as someone may think when seeing this new collection. They are much cheaper than other designer bags, but at the same high quality level. Being fashionable has never been easier than these days when young and creative designers like the Erziak sisters or Monika Botkier make wonders and don’t charge us too hard to them.

I want to make the shift to a healthier way of living. Cooking is one of the things I want to improve. Baking, braising, grilling/broiling, poaching, roasting, sauteing, steaming, stir-frying are common “healthy ways” of cooking I found in the net.  I’m confused so if you do roasting but your ingredients are unhealthy then the essence of healthy cooking is contradicted.
Ugh I dunno guys my mind is all murky right now and obviously having low IQ as of the moment so please help me define “healthy way of cooking”.

I need to get on a healthy cooking, so I wonder what are some good recipes to start with. I hope they are tasty. My biggest favorites are pork chop casserole dishes, but I’m not so sure pork is a healthy food to eat. However, I must admin it’s tastier than chicken breast or turkey… or maybe that happens just because I don’t know how to cook them.

I consider myself to have quite a healthy diet already, eating a lot of fruit and cereals. However, I find myself cooking a lot of omelettes and baked potatoes for dinner because they are cheap and easy to cook. Does anyone know any recipes with similar characteristics that have more variety and are healthier? I’m tired of eating the same things over and over again.

I want to cook healthy but I don’t know any recipes can anyone give me a few healthy recipes or point me in the direction of some tasty ones? I’m willing to try new things, so I don’t mind even unusual ingredients or spices.

As I like to be comfortable, I choose to wear casual outfits whenever I can. There are many occasions when casual clothes such as tactical pants are an excellent choice. One good example can be hiking in the mountains: as I usually take long trips, I could use pants with lots of pockets, so I can store items that are necessary for me, to have them at hand quickly, without having to search in the depth of my backpack each time. For sunny days, I also make sure I don’t forget my tactical Boonie hat, which is a great match for my pants and which keeps my bald head away from sun rays.

The registration for Beach to Beacon 2009 10k run has just opened and it is expected that all places will be sold out within the first day.

Beach to Beacon is a sport event, a race of 6.2 miles, from Crescent Beach to Portland Head Light. This run takes place every year. The awards are in total of $10000, quite attractive, besides the whole event which is going to be fun for the participants. You can register online for a $35 fee, but you surely need to hurry up, as it is very probable that by tomorrow all openings are gone. Funny is that if you decide to take part, you can lose 5 pounds in two days, because of your effort. What better exercise do you want to stay fit?

The race will take place on August 1st 2009. In fact there are going to be two races: one for normal people and one for wheelchairs. For $5 you can register your child for a children’s fun run. You can invite your friends to join you at the Beach to Beacon 2009, to see which one of you is the best runner. Of course, this is going to be very attractive especially for Portland, Maine residents, but there are also other people who will register, from all over the country. The field has been increased with 6000, but still the persons who will want to register will exceed by far the available places. This is why, in case you want to take part in the run, you have to book your place as soon as you can. Registrations are done exclusively online, so don’t try any other way.

Good luck to all runners in Beach to Beacon 2009.

I’ve written about my collecting hobbies several times now. Luckily I live in a big house, so I have plenty of spece for all those rock collections, stamps collections and other items I like to bring from ny trips across the world.

Today I’m going to share with you my new passion: I’m collecting antique clocks. This hobby will allow me to arrange a great room full of clocks, where to enjoy the afternoon leisure. It all started one month ago, when I got a present from my godfather: one of those superb ansonia clocks which I’ve always admired but never thought I’d have one some day.

I know I’ll have to study a lot, because I need to learn how to classify antique clocks. Clocks can be shelf, wall, longcase, beehives, and according to their original purpose, they can be advertising clocks, animated clocks, anniversary clocks, etc. Did you know, for instance, that already in the 17th century they were making clocks which required winding only once a year? Yet, the torsion pendulum was invented in 1829.

A few of the most known and appreciated brands of antique clocks are Ansonia Clock Company in the US, Badishe Clock Company, Junghans and Gustav Becker in Germany, Pierre and Alfred Drocourt in France, Gebruders Resch in Austria, and the list could go on like this for a while.

I’ll share with you more info on how to buy antique clocks as I learn.
