You sew the two pieces of fabric together, then hang your curtains back to the windows and add some Velcro tape on the backside of the curtains and on the walls, in order to make the three free edges of the curtain stay pressed against the wall.

This is one of the cheapest home insulation methods that can significantly improve the r-value of your windows, thus increasing your thermal comfort and decreasing your energy bills.
