About 3-4 years ago, while visiting Turkey, we’ve encountered an ancient city which was abandoned by its inhabitants. All houses were still in place, but everything looked sad and strange. It was like everybody in that village went away and never came back again, leaving behind everything that they had. That reminded me of other abandoned cities, for example the city of Pripyat, in Ukraine, after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Pripyat used to be a normal city, where the life was going on like in any other city of the world: people were happy, they had their little joys and worries, they raised their children, cooked, laughed and cried, just like their peers across the world. After the nuclear plant in Chernobyl exploded, life was never the same in that part of the world. Affected by radiations, many people got ill and died, children were born with severe damages, and soon, Pripyat became an abandoned city, where nothing grew, where life was not supported anymore. Now, at more than 20 years later, there are still ruins all over the place, and the only life form are some wild horses.

Who knows, maybe that Ghost City in Turkey had its Chernobyl too, but nobody lived to tell us the story.
